An interesting bit of old London Wall in the foreground and the site of something even more interesting to the right of the picture. It is the site of the house where Shakespeare lodged in 1612, though there is nothing there to inform people. You can find it in London Wall on the opposite side of the road to Noble Street Behind this door are the remains of the Rose Theatre where Shakespeare and Marlow performed. It is opened to the public from time to time Irelandyard image from www.flickr.com Underneath these stones lie the remains of the original Globe Theatre. Most of the remans lie under an adjoining building which is listed and so can't be touched (yet . . .) . . . in Blackfriars where he purchased the gatehouse of the former Blackfriars' monastery in 1613. The deed with Shakespeare's supposed signature is on view at the British Library.
