The Irwell Sculpture Trail (IST) is one of the largest public art schemes in the UK. Initially funded in 1997, IST has since commissioned residency and bursary programmes, community projects and commissions by local, national and international artists over a 33 mile long trail which follows the path of the River Irwell; from Salford Quays through Bury and up into Rossendale.
A Partnership was formed in 2006; including Bury Metropolitan Borough Council, Rossendale Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, headed by Salford City Council and supported by Arts Council North West. The Partnership is focused on a renewed and shared vision to drive the development and relaunch of the Irwell Sculpture Trail in 2011.

- a trip up pendle hill is a must but also the singing ringing tree followed by a pint of erdinger at the bridge in Burnley!
- There is a bridge near where i live,in goodshawfold+ everytime i go walking i go over the bridge+play pooh sticks,when we have friends +family over,we all g
- The bocholt tree in Rossendale, because it's so visible and I love the way it gets a magical make over every season.
- Halo at Top O' Slate, it is amazing and really looks like a UFO!! Very bracing on a beautiful Lancashire winter day...
- The tree hugged path that runs alongside Wallness Lane, Salford; by the River Irwell at the back of Peel Park. It's the prettiest place I know round here.
